high quality content to be displayed in news feeds

Facebook to Hit on Low-quality content & Meme Photos, tweaks news feed algorithm.

Umair Qureshi 4 comments

Facebook to hit on meme’s & other low-quality content and will boost news and articles to appear more in the user news feeds which will be based on high-quality & relevancy, announced this week in the latest update release.

Facebook tweaks news feed algorithm which will bring more newsy and relevant content in the user news feed more prominently than before. The goal of this update is to ensure right content to the right users at the right time. The latest change will ensure users to see content of their choice and what relevant sources are viewing and what friends have to say about it. An average referral traffic from Facebook to media sites has increased by over 170% – almost tripled – in the past year. So any news worthy & high quality content will get decent attention in the user news feeds which will help websites to get high referral visits than ever before.

According to the update announcementWhy are we doing this? Our surveys show that on average people prefer links to high quality articles about current events, their favorite sports team or shared interests, to the latest meme. Starting soon, we’ll be doing a better job of distinguishing between a high quality article on a website versus a meme photo hosted somewhere other than Facebook when people click on those stories on mobile. This means that high quality articles you or others read may show up a bit more prominently in your News Feed, and meme photos may show up a bit less prominently.

High Quality Content, Less Meme Photos!

The most high clicked topics on news feeds are current events, favourite sports team or shared interests or latest meme. The recent update will differentiate between the high quality content and meme photos that are hosted on other websites which means you’re favourite meme photos wont longer appear in the news feeds more often, only content with high authority will get more news feed attention.

Content Discovery:

It will based on people’s choice and what they are liking, sharing or commenting on Facebook. It will show additional articles and other high quality relevant content similar to what users had just read. It will soon appear relevant content once you click through an article, you may see relevant content directly below in the News feed which will let users to engage with more high quality content of their interest & choice.

Story Bumping:

To show relevant content and to see top conversations on high quality content, the new update will bring top stories from your friends and network with all the latest comments and conversations going on. With this update it will be easy to find stories that you’re friends are interested in and talking about and will be shown up in users news feed on top of all stories and it wouldn’t bump up in the news feed.

How I re-branded My Old 49K+ Facebook Fan-base.

How I renamed my 49K+ Facebook Fan page?

Umair Qureshi No Comments

DISCLAIMER: This trick worked for me as explained in the below post, but doesn’t necessarily it will work for everyone as Facebook keep doing changes in their system. So in case you want to give a try, do it at your own risk and I will only recommend you to try on your small page first not your primary page.

How I re-branded My Old 49K+ Facebook Fan-base.

Recently I have experimented on one of my Facebook page which has a long name and due to this I thought it was kind of a useless page for me but with over 49 thousand fans I kept it engage and active. I always wanted to utilize this page but with very weird and long name it was little embarrassing to use it for my upcoming blog. Many brands may have faced similar situation like me, having their own targeted fans base for new products/services & wanted to give their brand a new name or may be in some cases they may have spelled brand name incorrectly of their existing business pages, but than they find out once a Facebook page crossed more than 200 likes it cannot be renamed which means you are now stucked with the name you choose when you started your Facebook page.

So I did a short-cut…

I choose to merge my page into a newly create page with the new name i wanted and transferred all my fans into my new  page.  Also note, the only way Facebook allows to change a page name is formally requesting them either via admin panel or through emails, but it is said to be a long process.

Things to Consider

Before page merge process, You need consider below very important points:

1. Different named pages can be merged also.
2. Both pages must have same address, valid phone numbers and should be categorized as a local business page.
3. Your all content such as wall posts, likes, photo albums etc will not be included into your newly merged page.
4. Check-ins of both pages will get combined into a newly merged page.
5. You must be an admin of both pages to complete merge process successfully.
6. There is no undo button, Once you done with the merge process you cant unmerge pages anymore.

Important note: You may loose your vanity URL in this process, But if you are already in a re-branding process than you shouldn’t worry much.

The Process

You can merge two page’s of any name and number of likes by following below steps:

facebook page rename trick

Make sure you fill same information on your both pages.

Suppose, Page ‘A’ contains 3 likes & Page ‘B’ contains 3k likes.

1. Make sure you fill same address in both pages page ‘A’ & ‘B’.
2. Select category for pages ‘A’ ‘B’ to a Local Business.
3. Add any phone number & address on both pages which must be valid.
4. Ask your friends to click on ‘suggest and edit’ on your page ‘A’ in which you want to merge your big page which is ‘B’ in this case. A has just 3 likes only while B has 3k likes.
5. By clicking on the suggest and edit, a pop-up window will open where at the bottom there is a “Find duplicate” option.
6. Ask at least 4 friends to suggest your ‘B’ page as a duplicate by simply copying the link of your Page ‘B’ and pasting it into duplicate section of page ‘A’ than click save to complete the action.
7. After following step 6, Go to settings of your “A” page & check for merge pages option. You will now see “B” page. Follow rest steps to merge your pages into one.

merge different names facebook pages

Make sure you follow above listed steps accordingly. Otherwise it may not work properly. You can later on change your Fan-page information such as category, addresses & phone numbers after the merge process being done.

In any case above method doesn’t work, You can always try out the request to merge Facebook pages.

By following above steps you will easily merge your big page into your newly created re-branded page of yours. In any case you are feeling difficulty following above steps you may tweet me at @umairquraishi with your specific problem.

How New Facebook Like and Share Buttons going to engage your blog visitors?

Umair Qureshi No Comments

New likes and share buttons designs are the latest developments from Facebook. The redesign of new buttons somewhat ease the process of displaying. According to the Facebook developer’s blog, the new update will be rolled out to everyone soon and also the users of current like button will be automatically updated.

The current buttons were introduced back in 2010 for the first time to everyone. The Like and Share buttons are viewed over 22 billion times each day contributing to a ton of referral traffic on over 7.5 million websites as per the blog statement . Before this update, Facebook never officially supported the share button option and it was originally featured by most of the third party applications. Now Facebook finally introducing new design for the like & share buttons which will roll out in coming weeks.

According to the Facebook developer blog announcement here.

“Today, we’re introducing a new design for both Like and Share to help people share more great content across the web. We’re already seeing a favorable increase in Likes and Shares with the new design and will be rolling these buttons out to everyone in the coming weeks. If you are currently using the old Like button, you’ll be automatically upgraded to the new design as part of our roll out. We’ve also made it easy for you to include the Like and Share buttons side by side and the Share button by itself”

From Blog’s Point of View:

The new single click like button lets users to like anything by performing one-click action only while the share button lets users to add a more personalized message when sharing from the blog. It will definitely increase the chances of anything going viral as sharing something with current like action doesn’t go on the users timeline but shows in the news feed in a separate like section on the side-bar. In that case, Most of us will agree that sharing a blog post with customize options has higher chances of reaching out to the audience as it will be appearing on the users timeline, friend’s timeline, in a group or any page you manage. So compare to the like action share button could potentially boost referral visits from your blog.

Strategic Placements:

Strategic placement of social sharing buttons encourage your visitors to share any like-able/share-able content from your blog easily. It is highly crucial for blogger’s to place these buttons near your important content area as also explained by Head of Product Nico Pitney at Huffington Post’s:

We place the Like and Share buttons right below the headline of our articles and in a persistent left side bar that stays with the user when they scroll down the page. We want to give people every opportunity to like and share content, and, at this point, I like to think we’ve made it hard not to engage in social actions.

Who doesn’t want more traffic? views, subscribers or interactions. But what makes your content popular in such a small period is not easy until you follow what is required. It is a dream for any digital marketer to see posts getting massively viral.

Creating interesting and engaging content for your audience is a tough job, as you do need to go deep in to the insights to check what is working for you and whats not, more importantly you have to try a lot of different content ideas at the same time in order to know your audience sentiments. So actually there is no exact formula of making your Facebook post viral.

Then..Then What?

It is something that is not planned but can be achieved with the consistency and mixture of creativity, good timing and of course luck. 😉

SIX key tips for Going Viral on Facebook.

1.  Focus on most trending topic that could make your post viral as people mostly look out for the first served news, So better stay connected with hot trends in your niche.

2.  Videos get viral like crazy all over Facebook as many people will share across social networks if it is interesting to them. Try to dig insights of your page to get your audience interest and create content that is relevant, informative & share able for them.

3.  On social media every next person is a promoter and influencer. Sometimes your content gets noticed by someone bigger than your audience which is why it is always important to be connected with the top influencers of your niche.

4.  Sometimes people need a fresh air. Its important that you do something that is never been done so just don’t repeatedly stick to your plan and try out different things which gets everyone excited & make your fan base to share it.

5.  Everyone loves to laugh.. I will be more happy to share anything that is insanely funny! So if you got a good sense of humor than it is actually a good way to get little attention of your followers and see your post getting viral.

6. If you are okay being controversial or even hated a little for the sake of getting viral than you can afford this strategy which might work in your favor or sometimes not. It is mostly adapted by newspapers or magazines to create unique and shocking buzz for their audience.

Have you tried any of these? Let me know in comments…

Facebook stepped up with objective-based ads creation & reporting.

Umair Qureshi No Comments

Facebook stepped up with major change that encourage small businesses to spend more in the Facebook ad platform where they could create objective-based campaigns. In October, Facebook announced new ad creation process that will ease the process of creating ads and measuring its impact. Newly added feature starts with a simple question – What’s your advertising objective?. It is the continuation of on going enhancements Facebook has made recently to streamline Facebook ads type. Last month Facebook introduced larger image size for better CTR.

However, Facebook is slowly rolling out to advertisers and these new updates will not be available immediately.

The new ad flow system will be based out on the common objectives as below.

Clicks to Website
Website Conversions
Page Post Engagement
Page Likes
App Installs
App Engagement
In-store Offer claims
Event Responses

With the new ad flow system, Marketers may now have more control over their campaigns as they will choose about the ad placements and where it is performing best.

As before, Facebook will place your ad where we see it performing best — whether it’s in mobile News Feed, desktop News Feed and/or on the right-hand column. However, knowing some advertisers want to tailor ads based on placement, we’re now giving marketers the option to choose where their ad appears. For example, a marketer looking to drive traffic to their website can now place a desktop ad with a link to their full desktop site, and a separate mobile ad that links to their mobile site. This means businesses can better tailor ad experiences based on where people will see their message. – Facebook

Ads-Manager Make-Over:

Facebook also updated its ads manager tool to support the newly objective-based ads feature.

We’ve also updated our Ads Manager tool — where advertisers measure the performance of their ads and campaigns — to map their results directly to the objective they chose when they created their ad. Ads Manager will now show the objective, the number of times the objective was met, and the cost per stated objective. For instance, if an advertiser wanted its ad campaign to drive Website Conversions, now we will show how many Website Conversions the ad campaign drove. – Facebook

The new changes will encourage small businesses to spend more with newly added objective-based ads feature who did not see value in Facebook ads before.  It will certainly help marketers to focus on what working best for them so they could generate more leads.

So, isn’t Facebook making it easier for novice to run ads and manage business page?? 😛
